Unit Profile
The Adult Inpatient Mental Health Units are two 21 bed units with an 8 bed COU adjacent to Unit 2. Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychiatrists, Nursing, Pharmacists, Program Assistants and Peer Mentors make up the interprofessional team working together to provide care to the patients. The adult inpatient mental health unit provides care to individuals 18 and older suffering from a variety of psychiatric illnesses.
This is what you’ll be doing:
Providing clinical leadership in the care of patients and families in the inpatient unit, you will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to meet optimal patient and departmental needs. You will work with the nursing leadership team to create a patient and family centered environment, with an emphasis on patient safety, evidence-based clinical practice and building a positive environment for patients, families, nursing, medical staff and interdisciplinary colleagues exemplifying our Respectful Workplace Policy.
Both CRNs will rotate to provide coverage on Unit 1 and Unit 2/COU for specific periods (based on feedback and operational needs). The CRNs will work collaboratively across the units to facilitate a cohesive work environment with consistent nursing practices and coordinate the day-to-day clinical operations including oversight of equipment and supplies and assigning nursing resources according to patient acuity and staff skills. You will monitor workload throughout the shift while seeking and providing learning opportunities for nursing staff. You will perform direct patient care activities according to the needs.
Working with both internal and external partners you will attend Halton Healthcare Clinical Resources Nurse Forum, weekly Operations meeting and other committees as appropriate. You will identify areas for improvement and participate in the development and monitoring of quality indicators. You will participate in the recruitment and retention of staff, interviewing and coaching as needed in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager. You will participate in various projects as they arise.
This is what you’ll need to do it:
Halton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; patient/customer focused; team players; effective communicators; caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible.
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred/or in progress
- Current BCLS, CPI required
- CPMHN certification preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development including formal post RN and graduate level education
- Minimum of 5 years clinical experience in Mental Health Nursing with recent leadership experience (within last two years)
- Available to participate in and lead workshops/training/meetings outside of routinely scheduled work hours
- Must possess strong leadership and communication skills. Able to problem solve and build collaborative relationships. Experienced with conflict resolution, mentoring, and patient flow.
- Must be able to perform in all areas of department including response to codes.
- Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence with strong clinical skills
- Demonstrated ability to direct, support, advise and lead others
- Respond positively to stress, understand the impact of change and demonstrates an ability to manage change
- Demonstrated conflict management and conflict prevention and resolution skills
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with a commitment to quality improvement, risk mitigation and management, and management of quality indicators (metrics) and incident report follow-up
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Salary Scale: $36.10 - $50.84 per hour
