Decolonizing and Transnational Literatures, Department of English

The Department of English in the College of Arts & Science, University of Saskatchewan, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Decolonizing, Transnational, and Diasporic Literatures, at the Assistant Professor level, to begin July 1, 2023.

The successful candidate will have a record of research success in transnational, diasporic, and/or decolonizing literatures and their social, cultural, and political contexts and a well-developed, ongoing research program. Specialization in additional areas of our programming, such as Digital and Media Studies or Creative Writing, would be an asset. The successful candidate will contribute to all areas of our graduate and undergraduate programming, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the period as well as introductory literature and composition courses, and participate in the administrative work of the Department, College, and University.

The Department of English is strongly committed to research activity and to teaching excellence at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The Department’s nineteen permanent faculty members provide education in literatures from a variety of historical periods and geographical locations. Areas of concentration include Indigenous Literatures, Digital Studies, Modernist Studies, Canadian Literatures, Creative Writing, and Cultural Studies.

The College of Arts and Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College, and 296 faculty members, including 10 Canada Research Chairs. The College emphasizes student and faculty research, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach, and international opportunities.

Qualifications:

The completion or near completion of a PhD is required, as is demonstrated ability in teaching, research, and publication. A record of successful teaching and mentoring of Indigenous students will be considered an asset. Salary band and Benefits (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023):

Assistant Professor: $99,945 to $120,099 This position includes a comprehensive benefits package which includes a dental, health and extended vision care plan, a pension plan, life insurance (compulsory and voluntary), academic long-term disability, sick leave, travel insurance, death benefits, an employee assistance program, a professional expense allowance, and a flexible health and wellness spending program.
