BHG Orthodontics is looking to welcome a Registered Dental Hygienist to our outstanding team. Orthodontic experience is an asset, but we look forward to supporting the right candidate to expand their skills.

Both our doctors at BHG Orthodontics have over 20 years of experience as orthodontic specialists, while also being on staff as clinical professors for the Graduate Orthodontics program at the University of Western Ontario. Given this our practice will provide a passionate Hygienist with the opportunity for a rewarding career.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Patient screening procedures, progress reports, assessing oral hygiene, reviewing medical history, confirming/updating of personal information such as address, phone number, email, DDS
  • Maintaining accurate records of patients’ oral health, treatment progress and procedures performed within practice management system
  • Performing intra oral procedures authorized by DDS as indicated in patients’ chart: (e.g. archwires, chain elastics/elastic thread, coil springs, archwire/surgical hooks, auxillary hooks, Forsus springs, MARA elbows)
  • Placing and removing of separating elastics
  • Preparing of teeth + placing of fixed appliances previously fitted by DDS: (e.g. bands, brackets, MARA, RPE, Invisalign attachments, fixed lingual retainers)
  • Removing fixed appliances and devices and residual cement: (e.g. brackets, bands, MARA, RPE, fixed retainers, Invisalign attachments)
  • Scaling as necessary prior to placement of fixed lingual retainer
  • Mechanically polishing teeth post removal of fixed appliances
  • Taking impressions for retainer/mouthguard fabrication
  • Providing instruction to patients regarding oral hygiene, dietary counseling relative to orthodontics, and specific information pertaining to devices/braces
  • Assessing patient emergency concerns and restore patient to original state (e.g. clip poking archwires, replace broken archwires, replace broken or missing chain elastics, repair missing or loose fixed appliances/devices, reinsert/replace loose or missing parts of appliances/devices)
  • Assisting with cleaning/disinfecting of operatories when time permits
  • Providing reports to parents/guardians
  • Interpreting MSDS/SDS and ensure proper protocols are followed
  • Assessing emergency situations, aware of emergency protocols and knowledge of first aid and CPR
  • Placing/removing of retraction cord as necessary to enable proper bracket placement (Restorative Hygienist/DDS only)

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to provide key responsibilities while wearing personal protective equipment such as gown, cap, face shield, and mask
  • For aerosol generating procedures a N95 or KN95 mask is required

Qualifications:

  • Registered Dental Hygienist or Restorative Dental Hygienist in good standing
  • CPR C/AED Certification
