SOARE is seeking a Development Manager to work in collaboration with the Board of Directors to develop and deliver programing, services, events, and member recruitment in line with the organisation’s goals and objectives.

About us

The Sea to Sky Outdoor Adventure Recreation Enterprise (SOARE) is a not for profit, member-driven network dedicated to building the strength and awareness of the Sea to Sky’s Outdoor Recreation industry.

SOARE champions Outdoor Recreation gear and apparel design and development, and adventure-based media and branding. By connecting together designers, inventors, and manufacturers of rec-tech gear and performance apparel, we enable companies and businesses to thrive as a collective.

SOARE is in its infancy as an organisation, however, the goals are ambitious and the plan is to move quickly to service the many prospective members.

  • You are highly organised, entrepreneurial in nature, and enjoy multitasking. You thrive in a social environment, at organising and facilitating events, and are passionate about the work you do. Supporting the growth of outdoor brands and businesses in the Sea to Sky corridor gets you excited. Your ability to manage your time allows you to get things done when needed and still have time to hit the trails to recharge.

Important stuff:

  • This role is based in the Sea to Sky corridor (Squamish to Pemberton)
  • Remote (work from home) with on site meetings as needed
  • Part time 20 hours per week
  • Flexible work hours with some evenings and event attendance required
  • Some intermittent travel within the region may be required (a car is necessary)
  • Remuneration $35 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Ideally, this role would commence by June 1st, 2023 however there can be flexibility for the right candidate.

The role:

Work with the Board of Directors to execute projects and programming as defined by the SOARE Strategic Plan (available upon request). These include

  • Grow a membership of outdoor industry brands and industry stakeholders
  • Lead the development of event programming and scheduling of events
  • Support the development of a financially sustainable organisation
  • Build strategic partnerships
  • Generate interest around events, activities, and initiatives
  • Build basic brand and marketing materials with consultation from external agencies
  • Manage digital channels, distribution, and content
  • Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organisation
  • Develop a rec-tech hub for brands, individuals, and community, to gather and innovate
  • Champion the shared goals and beliefs of the various industry stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Rec-tech interests beyond the office
  • Passion for the Sea to Sky region
  • Integrity and accuracy
  • Self starter with good time management skills
  • Organised with ability to manage time and workload as needed
  • Multi tasking and prioritisation

Personal Competencies:

  • Experience in the following fields considered an asset: Sales and marketing, Product development and design - ideally in the recreation vertical, Managing stakeholder relationships, Experience and understanding of product development life cycle in manufacturing, media and or a related field, Non-profit sector development
  • The following skills are considered an asset: Experience leading others
  • Basic research skills (focus groups, surveying)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Content development
  • Media relations/ public relations experience and asset
  • Understanding of financial processes
  • Governance experience
  • Fundraising or grant writing experience
  • Comfortable presenting to large groups
  • Facilitation of panel group discussions
  • Mentorship and guidance
  • Proven track record of business / organisational development
  • A current and valid driver's licence is required
  • Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada by June 1st, 2023
