If you are, we’d like you to be a part of the Planning and Performance (P&P) team as a Director of System & Service Planning – North Zone. This position is responsible for leading health service planning for the North Zone. The position is based in the provincial P&P portfolio and reports to the Executive Director of System & Service Planning in P&P. However, as the planning team is considered “fully embedded” support for the zone, this role will have a matrix reporting and accountability structure to the North Zone Chief Zone Health Officer and Zone Medical Director as well. The successful candidate will provide direct leadership and oversight to the North Zone Senior Planner. In this position, you will develop comprehensive, evidence-informed, integrated service plans. With this accountability, this role has a significant impact on of the health outcomes of North Zone residents. The service planning will reflect provincial strategies as well as zone-specific priorities. You will develop and apply planning frameworks and other decision support tools to enable consistent approaches in planning across multiple services, populations, and geographies. You have a strong commitment to patient and family-centered care as well as to the delivery of high-quality, safe care. You will work with AHS’ community engagement partners to ensure that the voice of patients, families, and communities are reflected in service plans.

Description:

This role requires a solid understanding of strategic and integrated service planning and the ability to lead the development of such plans in support of AHS’ vision, mission, goals and values. The successful candidate is skilled in developing strategies and recognizing areas of improvement from a system perspective. They are also comfortable “getting into the details and data” to complete health service plans. The Director demonstrates leadership skills, excellent judgement, and provides the North Zone leadership team with the planning support they require. With your demonstrated and progressive record of leadership, you will provide guidance and mentorship to the North Zone Senior Planner. An effective communicator, you will develop and maintain strong working relationships with other teams in the North Zone, as well as with key internal and external stakeholders. With your skills in service planning, you will base strategic advice and service delivery recommendations on local needs assessments, performance information, best practices in other jurisdictions, and stakeholder feedback. Along with your experience in facilitation and in navigating challenging conversations, you are also comfortable with project management and prioritizing deliverables. The incumbent also incorporates components of change and innovation in their service planning. This position may operate in a hybrid work environment, effectively balancing work-from-home, and office. Preferred location for this position is North Zone, although this is negotiable.

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in a health or management-related discipline. A minimum of 7-10 years experience in a healthcare organization and a demonstrated record of progressive leadership experience during that time. This experience has been in a health service planning, management, evaluation, quality improvement or healthcare/clinical leadership role. This experience has been gained in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Facilitation experience is important. The ability to prioritize within and amongst projects is important. You can manage stakeholder expectations in a complex organization and in an environment that may sometimes have rapidly changing priorities. You are comfortable with project management approaches and having multiple projects underway at once. You interact effectively with senior leaders. You have the ability to deal with highly complex or sensitive issues in an insightful and tactful way. You have the proven ability to lead complex planning projects that involve innovation, change management, and community engagement.

Occasional travel in North Zone may be required, so the successful candidate needs to possess a valid driver’s license.
