Finance and Accounting Manager

Job Summary

The finance and accounting manager reports directly to the CFO and will be responsible for supervising and managing the accounting department and all areas of financial reporting. We are looking for someone to help develop and maintain accounting principles, best practices, and systems for collecting, analyzing, and reporting information. Must have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The accounting manager will advise on budgets, financial strategy, financial reporting, and forecasting. He or she will also be responsible for managing the daily operations of the accounting team, helping with audit and ledger preparation, and supporting departments with financial procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversees accounting operations including billing, payroll, payables, and the preparation of the monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages
• Oversees ongoing regulatory compliance and reporting
• Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions
• Ensures financial accounting complies with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Acts as a liaison and first point of contact for external audits
• Assists with the development and execution of the budget/forecast
• Performs internal audit exercises to ensure account integrity
• Assists with the development and measurement of company/department KPIs
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting
• Five years or more of related experience
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
• Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, cost control principles, and GAAP
• Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and provincial/federal regulatory requirements
• Previous experience supervising an accounting/auditing team
• Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with software system implementation a plus
• Sage 50 experience is highly desirable
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Pays strict attention to detail
• Experience working within a multi-entity company is desirable
• Experience with government funded contracts is desirable
• Comfortable working in a high-growth organization
• Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
• Able and willing to participate at both the transactional and strategic levels of the Company
