A $1.00 an hour raise will be issued after the successful completion of 480 hours of service, to a total of $22.00 an hour.

General Description of the Job

The grounds crew position requires maintaining the general appearence of the farm. Any applicants should have experience with operating farm equipment, specifically: tractors, steiners, snow blowers, skid steers, vacuum tanks etc. The position requires the selected candidate to work flexible hours. The standard hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00am-3:00pm; however these may be adjusted based on the needs of the farm. Throughout the winter prior to an expected snowfall, it may be necessary for the candidate to work from 4:00am-12:00pm in order to clear laneways of snow prior to staff arriving in the morning. When barns are being cleaned out or washed, it may be necessary to work late in order to meet deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Snow removal of all farm lanes, dock areas, and barn entrances.
• Operating a tractor and vacuum tank to empty holding tanks during barn washes.
• Assisting in barn cleanouts.
• Exterior barn walks, checking intake screens and steel.
• Picking up mortality on a daily basis and composting them.
• Cleaning feed bin pads on a routine basis.
• Collecting garbage and recycling on a weekly basis.
• Dumping manure wagons as needed.
• Delivering supplies to various barns as required.
• Taking inventory of consumables and ordering as needed.
• Maintaining and servicing farm equipment.
• Assisting the maintenance staff if required.
• Any other duties assigned by the Farming Operations Manager.

Background:

• Grade 12 education and strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
• Able to adapt to changes and open to learning new ways to get things done more efficiently and effectively.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment, thinking and reacting quickly, and making fast yet accurate decisions.
