HEALTH PROMOTIONS WORKER
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE SERVICES OF A FULL-TIME HEALTH PROMOTIONS WORKER FOR THE ATHABASCA HEALTH AUTHORITY (AHA).
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Health Promotion Worker works to develop, manage and evaluate a comprehensive health promotion and disease prevention activities in the Athabasca Basin. While the position is located in the AHA Facility at Stony Rapids, the Health Promotions Worker works collaboratively with health service providers across the Athabasca Basin through program support, nutrition counseling and community education to promote healthy lifestyles choices and healthy environments, and prevent chronic disease and disability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Developing a comprehensive Health Education and Promotion Strategy for the Athabasca Health Authority and its member communities.
- Assisting health clinics and health facility with the development, implementation and evaluation of new and existing health promotion program initiatives.
- Coaching and building capacity of health services staff and families.
- Offering group activities that create awareness of chronic conditions, prevention strategies, adult health screening and support self-management education.
- Organizing an annual health fair at AHA and communities in Athabasca basin.
- Offering regular visits to the AHA communities (i.e. some travel required).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 and equivalent combination of education and work experience in public health promotions, familiarity with public health objectives;
- Experience working in a cross-cultural setting; knowledge/awareness of First Nations/Dene culture is an asset;
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
