Lecturer, History (St Thomas More College)

Applications are being accepted from qualified individuals for a Term position at the Lecturer rank, in the Department of History, effective July 1, 2022 (the anticipated start date) to June 30, 2023.

Particulars of the Position: This is a teaching position, although the successful candidate will be encouraged to take advantage of the College’s research supports as set out in the College’s collective agreement. The successful candidate will teach 5 courses per year at the undergraduate level and will have some flexibility teaching in the area of their expertise over their term of employment. The courses (in-person delivery) required for 2022-2023 will cover early Britain (Anglo-Saxon, Viking), medieval and late medieval Britain, the Crusades. Candidates will be expected to engage with all levels of students enrolled in the Classical, Medieval, and Renaissance Studies Program.

Requirements for the Position: A completed Ph.D. (at time of appointment) in History or Medieval Studies, demonstrated proficiency in Latin, and evidence of effectiveness in teaching at the university level. We are a diverse community and welcome applications from all qualified individuals.

Starting Salary for July 1, 2022 (based on 2021 salary scale):

Lecturer: $81,678

Successful candidates will be expected to make significant contributions to the teaching and (where appropriate) research missions of the College, to contribute to one or more of STM’s inter-disciplinary programs (Catholic Studies; Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good; Classics, Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Jewish and Christian Origins; Ukrainian Studies) according to his/her interest or requirements of the position, and to forge productive links with the corresponding University of Saskatchewan Department of History and the Museum of Antiquities.

• teaching dossier, including teaching philosophy, copies of teaching evaluations (both by students and peers; if the applicant has previously taught the course for which he/she is applying, teaching evaluations from that course should be made available), sample syllabi, and other materials as appropriate.

• sample of academic writing

• at least two letters of reference (please have them sent directly to the Department Head as soon as possible. Applications without reference letters will not be considered.)
