Mechanical Engineering Student – Summer 2023 – Sawmill Division

The Sawmill Division is currently seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineering Student position located at the Sussex Sawmill.

Sussex Sawmill has recently undergone a significant capital investment. The person in this position would be working with our brand-new saw line to develop their skills & further their mechanical engineering education.

What You Will Have Exposure To:

• Site safety program initiatives by supporting all aspects of our World-Class safety program
• Process improvement in an industrial site by introducing improvements to the current site preventive maintenance program
• Building forecasts utilizing work order history
• Performing root cause analysis on failures and reliability issues
• Industrial maintenance systems by bringing current equipment bill of materials up to date
• Project management by being responsible for & leading specific projects with a team of sawmill staff and millwrights
• Project coordination by working alongside contractors and mill personnel to determine scope, planning, and execution of work packages for mill projects
• Senior Management Team Members while you work alongside site leaders to drive improvement throughout the site

Qualifications:

• Mechanical or Industrial Engineering student in good academic standing, returning to school
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• High energy level with thorough attention to detail
• Self-motivated with a strong desire to improve operational processes
• Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities
• Enjoy working in a team-oriented environment with Mill Staff, Unionized Trades People, Operators, Contractors and Supplies to ensure projects are completed in a cost effective, timely, and safe manner
• Strong administrative abilities and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
