Job Description
-The De Beers Group has a full-time opportunity for a Mine Engineering Superintendent within the Mine Operations department at the Gahcho Kué Mine. Reporting to the Mining Manager, the Mine Engineering Superintendent will manage, coordinate, and control the mine engineering and planning functions including short- and medium-term planning, mining technology platforms and Mine to Mill initiatives to ensure effective management and recovery of diamond mineral resources. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys overcoming challenges, can quickly build relationships with key stakeholders and who is committed to safe work practices while striving for zero harm.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage short- and medium-term planning activities, Drill & Blast engineering and work management processes taking into account production plans which are integrated into the Mine to Mill strategy; Mobile Maintenance performance/schedule; and Life of Mine requirements.
- Determine and evaluate operating resources and resource scheduling to meet current and future targets.
- Drive a continuous improvement culture within the Mine Engineering department through leadership and coordination of projects and activities.
- Manage and coordinate the sustainability of mine technology projects, processes, report development and data analysis. Work with various stakeholders and vendors to implement solutions which will enhance organization value through safety, process, production, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate reconciliation of demonstrated performance data with the mine plans to identify and recommend actions for improvement and opportunities.
- Manage planning, scheduling and support implementation of dewatering strategies, mining projects and construction requirements.
- Coordinate and execute the preparation of strategic operational plans, budgets, and forecasts.
- Engage and collaborate with peer superintendents and other support functions to identify overarching risks and bottlenecks.
- Coach and mentor the development of Engineering Planners, Drill & Blast Engineers, and trainees (Mine Professionals in Training).
This is a site-based position with four (4) days on, three (3) off rotation based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Relocation assistance is available based on requirement.
Qualifications
-Formal qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent.
- 10 years’ experience in an open-pit mining environment with demonstrated leadership roles in mine engineering/planning.
- Motivated and self-directed professional eligible for Professional Engineering registration in the Northwest Territories.
- Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of mine design, optimization and scheduling software.
- Demonstrated abilities to manage projects and changes to work processes.
- Experience as an effective, visible, and approachable leader, with the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Working knowledge of business improvement methodologies (i.e., Lean Management or Six Sigma), contract management, opportunity/risk management techniques and critical controls.
- Courageous safety leader who has intervened to stop unsafe and harmful acts.
- Proven conflict resolution skills; and
- Previous experience working in a fast paced, cross-cultural environment.
Beneficial if you have:
- Advanced skills with Deswik mine planning/scheduling or other software.
- Experience with Mine Technology – fleet management dispatch, collision avoidance technology, etc.
- Knowledgeable of relevant safety, health, environment, regulatory and legislative requirements in the Northwest Territories.
