Schedule/ Terms of Employment: This is a Permanent (40 hours/week) position

Primary Purpose

The Pit Geologist will coordinate and schedule the activities of the Geology section within the Engineering and Geology department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide Coal Interpretation from the field to assist with the Short-range mine plan
  • Advise on coal recovery in complex structural geology
  • Lead the coal sampling program by identifying areas to sample
  • Support Short- and Long-term planning by planning and executing exploration programs.
  • Identify new areas with mining potential.
  • Utilise current data to develop bench-by-bench seam surfaces and solids in 3D modeling software to inform forecasting.
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation of the coal mining
  • Ensure monthly reports are accurate, complete & communicate findings to Senior or Chief Mine Engineer.
  • Routinely handles multiple tasks.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University Graduate – Major in Geology.
  • Preference given to those applicants with open pit mining experience or working around heavy machinery
  • 3D modeling software experience an asset
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong Communication Skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects & manage time.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of metallurgical coal geological structure and quality.
  • Safety Focused.
