Policy Analyst Job at Ministry of Energy
Consider this exciting opportunity in the Fuels Policy and Liaison Branch of the Ministry of Energy. This branch provides analysis, advice and policy coordination on issues relating to the supply and pricing of natural gas, crude oil, propane, gasoline, diesel and low-carbon fuels (e.g., low-carbon hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel and renewable natural gas). The Branch provides the ministry's main liaison with the oil, gas and low-carbon fuels industries and associations. In this role you will perform economic research and analysis to support the development of provincial energy policies.

What can I expect to do in this role?
As a Policy Analyst, you will:- Plan, design and conduct research to analyze various aspects of the energy sector with a heavy focus on transportation and heating fuels
- Monitor the impact of legislation, regulations and changes in market structure on the supply and pricing of fuels
- Draft policy options and recommendations for policy proposals, prepare reports, backgrounders, presentations and briefing notes for senior management
- Develop and maintain analytical models
- Monitor and report on developments in the energy sector especially on transportation and heating fuels
- Develop networks within own/other Ministries, other governments (e.g. municipal/provincial/federal) and external stakeholders
- Participate on task forces and working committees

Research Skills:
- You can plan, design and conduct economic and financial research and analysis
- You can search, collect, analyze, interpret and evaluate information for a study topic
- You can conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis
Communication and Stakeholder Relationships:
- You can develop networks with internal and external stakeholders to discuss policy issues and share/exchange information
- You have oral and written communication skills to prepare reports, summaries, graphics, briefing notes and presentations
Data Analysis and Visualization Skills:
- You are proficient in operating computer software applications including spreadsheets to assess financial, economic, relational and other data
- You are skilled in using computer software applications to visually represent data including charts, graphics, tables and dashboards
Policy Development Skills:
- You have knowledge of the policy development process
- You have experience developing policy options, strategies and recommendations
- You can apply government and ministry legislation, regulations, principles and processes to policy issues
