Principal Enterprise Architect, Canadian Tire Corporation Job at CT Corporation

CT Corporation Toronto, ON

Help us boldly shape retail in Canada

Canadian Tire Corporation’s (CTC) rich heritage of serving Canadians from coast-to-coast dates back to 1922. Our vision is to become the #1 retail brand in Canada and we are focused on innovating and making important investments in our business, especially when it comes to our people. To reach our goal, we need the best talent to help us evolve and drive change across the business – and boldly help shape Canada’s retail industry. As we strive to be at the forefront of a complex and vastly changing retail industry, it is an exciting time to join the Canadian Tire family of companies.

Canadian Tire is looking for a Principal Enterprise Architect to work collaboratively with cross functional IT and business teams and deliver exceptional solutions to our corporate partners.

At Canadian Tire we work flexibility embracing ‘Hybrid’ whereby individuals utilize a combination of working at a CTC campus and or virtually in service of outcomes. Determined by managers, decisions around work location will be made based on business and team needs and grounded in a desire to support individual well-being and personal needs. Our goal is to empower teams and individuals to make the right decisions for them, and we expect that to look different for everyone.

What you will do

  • Be a capable mentor to less experienced architects and provide frequent feedback

  • Make sound architecture decisions based on expertise (knowledge) of open/industry standards, current and evolving technologies, products, standards, patterns, and approaches

  • Lead the Architecture Community of Practice. Teach fellow architects how to make and annotate defensible decisions

  • Lead the development of target state architectures that enable business outcomes and consider the end-to-end flow

  • Develop capability heat maps by interviewing business and IT stakeholders and evaluating the desired capabilities against the current technical environment.

  • Review and provide feedback on standards, principles, and design patterns.

  • Oversee the Architecture Governance function. Enthusiastically participate in Architecture and Technology review boards. Ensure solution architects align to Enterprise Architecture patterns and practices.

  • Be a strong voice in build vs. buy discussions. Where the decision is to buy, represent EA in the RFx process. Evaluate new technology for fit within existing standards and make recommendations for adoption.

W ho you are

  • Creative and courageous, with the ability to manage in an environment of change and ambiguity to help us take bold, strategic moves in a rapidly evolving retail environment

  • An outcome focused, critical thinker with the ability to analyze and visualize target state, to ensure continuous improvement across our entire business

  • A collaborative team player with superior influencing skills, who easily builds business and technical relationships across various stakeholder groups to move initiatives forward

  • A talented communicator – a core part of each day is making complex topics easier to digest by a broad audience. Must be able to chat with the boiler room and the board room.

  • A curious experimenter - reading, collaborating, and doing are mandatory for today’s architect. You believe in continuous learning.

What you bring

  • 10+ years’ experience in a large technology environment with progressive architectural leadership roles, preferably in retail, banking, and/or automotive sectors.

  • Experience with both waterfall and agile delivery practices

  • Strong background in cloud technologies and cloud architecture patterns

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to build credibility and collaboration, including developing effective cross-organizational and vendor relationships

  • Ability to inspire, remove roadblocks, and coach technical teams to reach their full potential

  • Certification in an architectural framework such as TOGAF or Zachman is a definite asset

  • Top candidates will have solid knowledge of retail applications and related hardware platforms, operations support, cybersecurity, and cloud environments.

If selected for interview, candidates will be asked to provide samples of executive-level material they have created and presented.
