THE OPPORTUNITY

Western Forest Products has an exciting opportunity for a Production Coordinator Trainee for one of our East Coast Sawmills in BC:

  • Chemainus,
  • Cowichan Bay,
  • Ladysmith, and
  • Nanaimo.

What You’ll Do: The Production Coordinator Trainee is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of the sawmill and the planer schedules as well as cut programs. Working closely with Marketing, Log Supply, Manufacturing, Supply Control, Secondary Processing and Accounting, the Production Coordinator Trainee will ensure that programs meet the requirements of our sales program and are optimizing returns to the mill. In addition to this, the Trainee will coordinate logistical equipment bookings to execute product shipments on time.

Work Environment: This role is to be performed in person at one of our East Coast Sawmill operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Performance

  • Support the Production Coordinator in assessing and forecasting sawmill cuts and returns.
  • Support the Documentation Specialist in coordinating logistical equipment bookings to execute the timely shipment of products.

Operations

  • Provide input into the annual production schedule and maintain any updates as required;
  • Support the production of detailed cut plans and review with operations;
  • Liaise with Supply Control and the Sales and Marketing team to allocate production;
  • Work with the processing coordinator to establish secondary manufacturing programs;
  • Evaluate marketing inquiries and sales options;
  • Support the management of the Division order file to ensure on-spec, on-time deliveries;
  • Support matching of inventory to orders to deliver timely shipments and invoicing;
  • Assist with documentation, delivery slips and border paper requirements; and
  • Communicate and cooperate with other operations to expedite the matching and fulfillment of order files.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education And Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Commerce, Management, or similar business degree. This may be an ideal role for a recent graduate; and
  • Post-secondary degree in Wood Products Processing, Forestry, Engineering, or a combination of relevant education and lumber manufacturing experience.

  • Well-developed business acumen and strong analytical aptitude;
  • Team player who works well in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment; and
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, respond to changing conditions and excel under the pressure of deadlines.
