This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

In accordance with the Temporary Librarian, Administrative and Professional Staff (TLAPO) Agreement, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $66,730 - $111,144. This position has an initial appointment of 1 year plus a 1 day from date of hire.

Location

Work will primarily take place at North Campus Edmonton. This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty

The University Initiatives Office (UIO) was established to coordinate complex and cross-functional strategic initiatives across the University of Alberta. The UIO is focused on implementing solutions to improve the experience of users who access U of A services, and for users working within these business processes.

Position

The Project Manager is responsible for assisting in overseeing the coordination and alignment of projects within the UIO Program. In this role you will be responsible for the coordination of project design, planning, implementation, assistance with the procurement of contract services, cost estimating, budgeting, cost control, scheduling, risk management, and on-going communications with clients, external contractors, and stakeholders within and outside of the University.

Duties

  • Creates and manages the Project Management Plan which highlights staffing, budget, quality, communications, risk, and procurement, as appropriate.
  • Owns and executes project communications including kick-off, regular project status updates, meetings and changes to project scope, timelines, risks, etc.
  • Provides regular and accurate reports as well as project status updates, progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders and project steering committee.
  • Identifies and manages project dependencies, deliverables, and critical path.
  • Identifies, tracks, and implements strategies to manage risks and issues, maintains accurate risk-tracking documents, and escalates issues when necessary to minimize impact.
  • Monitors project and team performance against plans and takes effective corrective and preventive actions as required.
  • Facilitates open and honest communication among participants, stakeholders, and steering committee.
  • Initiates and prepares transition plans to migrate project deliverables, incorporating user training and prototype standards testing according to operational/business requirements.
  • Conducts post-implementation follow-up to ensure all tasks and close-out steps are completed successfully on the project.
  • Sets and continually manages project expectations with team members and stakeholders.
  • Manages and collaborates complex project work involving cross-functional teams from across the institution.
  • Contributing to the development of and enhancement of project management practices, procedures, tools, and techniques to be leveraged for future projects.
  • Leading and contributing to the development of project practices such as benefits realization and organizational change management

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in the profession or discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Project Management
  • Strong Knowledge of project lifecycle management
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Excellent planning and estimation skills
  • Experience in defining and developing procedures.
  • Experience working in a large organization similar in size to the University of Alberta
  • Training or certification in any of the following:
    • Project Management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2
    • Organizational Change Management certification
    • Process Improvement Methodologies
