OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for full-time, permanent Project Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and managing programs and projects, as well as the day-to-day operational requirements of a small technical focused team in accordance with Vertex guidelines and project scopes. This role will have a focus on supporting Biophysical based project work (soils, vegetation, wetlands, wildlife) with a secondary focus on reclamation projects in the R.M of Wood Buffalo. This individual will play a critical role in supporting technical team in Fort McMurray as well as providing support on the execution of projects and supporting the Field Operations Lead and other technical and project leads on executing work scopes.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology, hydrogeology, geology or other related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of environmental work experience with experience in:
- Soils and reclamation
- Executing and or exposure to environmental project work within the Oil Sands including but not limited to:
- Groundwater monitoring
- pre and post development assessments (soils and vegetation)
- wetlands
- wildlife sweep experience is an asset
- OSE assessments and maintenance
- Project management experience is an asset – scheduling, budget tracking, client interactions and communications and field logistics support
- Experience in executing project work within the Oil Sands (mine or insitu setting)
- Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of EPEA monitoring programs is an asset
- Experience writing and reviewing reports for technical accuracy is a requirement
- Hydrogeology, soils, or wildlife background a strong asset
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Spend up to 60% of work hours performing technical field program work on environmental projects
- Responsible for projects under your care and control, executing coordination tasks as directed by the Field Operations Lead, and cost control and project scoping to ensure effectively versatile solutions are developed to meet client’s needs and
- Plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate all assigned project activities, including mobilization, demobilization, manpower requirements, scheduling of equipment, materials, and facilities to ensure work is executed efficiently and effectively
- Responsible for both field and office support of environmental projects with an emphasis on project management and field execution to support programs as needed
- Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected
- Responsible to build relationships within Vertex, to effectively develop and manage projects within the environmental business unit
- Mentor and coach junior environmental staff
- Support the Oil Sands Manager and Field Operations Lead with day to day operations, staff oversight, scheduling, field program execution as needed and coordination of teams between the Fort McMurray office and other Vertex centers as required

This position will be based out of our Fort McMurray, Alberta office
