About the opportunity:

The Quality and Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the lab & production department ensuring that quantitative and qualitative measures included in the operating plan are met, including those related to safety, costs, cost reductions, productivity, inventory management, resource optimization, and space configuration. The position is responsible for ensuring safe work practices of personnel, performance coaching, accurate inventory management and control, process improvement, to support excellent customer service.

The attributes we are looking for:

• Provide leadership to improve health and safety performance by being a role model in safety and demonstrating due diligence through applying the corporate health & safety program elements. These focus on incident prevention through hazard identification, implementing necessary controls, training, education, and audits. Where necessary, take corrective action to address unsafe situations and employee behaviours, uphold Lactalis’s cardinal and other safety rules and procedures, and communicate with appropriate resources to address any hazardous conditions or unsafe employee conduct.
• Support efforts to ensure that all product and process related documentation is current including ingredient specification, formulations, finished product specifications, process flow charts, standard operating procedures etc.
• Provide leadership by supervising department activities and providing key information and performance feedback to employees to motivate their activities and maintain optimum quality, food safety and productivity. Communicate regularly and ensure adequate training of employees to achieve the business goals, including company practices and procedures such as sanitation, GMP, and safety. Ensure compliance with the Company’s corporate and legal obligations under the Collective Agreement (where applicable), as well as various statutes and regulations such as the Employment Standards Act, Workers Compensation Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Support development and implementation of operational and capital budgets, safety compliance, training and production plans, as well as monitor results against plan.
• Act as PQMS / HACCP Coordinator to ensure GMPs and SOPs are adhered to at all times, all products consistently meet specifications, and all documentation meets standards.

What you will bring:

• University degree in Food Sciences or Microbiology
• Five (5) years or more experience in food/dairy production
• Experience with quality programs such as; HACCP, PQMS, ISO
• Certified and/or experienced in the supervisory responsibilities under WSIB, OSHA, and First Aid would be an asset.
• Strong decision making skills to identify and solve problems in a timely and effective manner
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, communication and problem solving skills
• Capacity for learning and mastering technology and mechanical challenges in food manufacturing.
• Excellent team facilitation/leadership skills and commitment to employee development and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Lotus Notes and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint) as well as SAP.
