Overview:
The Quarry Supervisor’s prime objective is to coordinate and supervise the continuous quarry activities meeting objectives for quantity and quality, within safety and environmental standards. He also has to assure overall plant responsibility in the off-hours.
Safety:
- Conduct a monthly Safety meeting and a daily tailgate meeting with participation from all crew members, and ensure actions have or will be taken on items of concern.
- A review of all the new Incident Investigations for that time period is a mandatory component of the monthly safety meeting.
- Review the minutes with all employees absent from the meeting.
- Attend any meetings of subcommittees which they participate in and take an active role in the actions of the committee.
- If unable to attend a meeting, make arrangements for an alternate salaried person to attend.
- Ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures, availability of safety equipment, and provide first aid treatment.
- Report on accidents/incidents assuring follow-up.
Operational:
- Review with the crew, the instructions left by the Site Manager, ensure execution of the jobs or tasks as defined and the operating parameters/guidelines are correctly followed.
- Monitor the operation of those areas, detect malfunction or abnormal situation and take or trigger the necessary corrective actions.
- Evaluate possible cause of breakdown, determine urgency of corrective actions and call in repair crew as appropriate.
- Oversee quality control activities on shift and assist in the decision making in that area.
- Assure follow-up and feedback in relation to ongoing process studies and trials.
- Assure follow-up and feedback on mechanical/electrical repairs and/or modifications.
- Assure surveillance of the overall plant in the off-hours and assist security on such matters as plant visitors, removal of property, receipt of merchandise, access to stores, etc.
- Assure proper response in the case of emergency situations.
- Maintain an accurate and detailed account of his shift activities and operation, both qualitative and quantitative in the production log book.
- Report on call-outs, including reason, employees involved and work performed.
- Prepare work orders for all repairs or corrective actions that need planned scheduling or immediate attention.
Personnel:
- Assign and direct jobs to hourly employees taking into account knowledge, qualification, classification and seniority as applicable.
- Assign overtime taking into account call-out procedures, O/T equalization, job continuation, etc., as may be applicable and arrange for overtime meals.
- Ensure motivation of employees through proper delegation of jobs, participation, recognition, follow-up of suggestions, and fair and equitable treatment of all employees within his group.
- Initiate action and/or act as resource to the department head in the areas of employee performance, absenteeism, grievance and disciplinary action.
Administrative:
- Fill out times and wage rates on timesheets.
- Report on daily or shift activities for his group as per established format.
- All other quarry related tasks including but not limited to: Conduct specific studies or trials. (In consort with the Projects and Process departments.) Prepare procedures or other operating guidelines. Provide formal training to operators. Supervise implementation of specific jobs or projects. Assist in major equipment shutdowns, the compiling of operating data and the taking of physical inventories.

- Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Maintenance management and tracking, Daily production / Huddle meeting,
- Customer Focus: Quality OPI’s
- Environment : Environnemental Audits

Education & Work Experience:
- Technical College Degree (civil, mechanical,….) with 2 to 3 years of work experience in production or maintenance in a related field and preferably within a Unionized environment.
- OR Possess High School Degree with five (5) years of work experience in production or maintenance in a related field and preferably within a Unionized environment.
