12 hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off / 7 nights on / 7 days off)
Primary Purpose
- The Shovel Operator will be responsible for providing support to mine operations in an active open pit coal mine.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate shovels to efficiently load trucks with coal and waste and perform other tasks, as required.
- Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, perform pre-trip checks and complete FLHA’s on a regular basis
- Operate heavy equipment such as shovel to excavate, move, and load earth, rock, gravel or other materials during mining and related activities.
- Operate power shovels to excavate rock, ore or other materials from open-pit mines.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 2+ years experience operating shovels in an open pit mining or quarry environment is a prerequisite.
- Recent working experience in similar roles within mining industry and experience in hard rock preferred.
- Experience operating Komatsu PC7000 or PC4000 or PC2000, or Hitachi EX5500, or 5600, or EX8000 or EX3600, or EX1900 or similar equipment. The similarity will be determined by Conuma Coal.
- Completion of Grade 12
- Valid Driver’s License
Skills and Abilities
- Possess a solid understanding of the importance of optimizing productivity while maximizing safety.
- Ability to learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity and reliability.
- First Aid/Mine Rescue Training is considered an asset.
- Physically fit with the ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Applicants must have completed English up to Grade 10 or CLB 4
- Willingness to learn.
