Schedule Description
DUTIES
Provides strong technological leadership in architecture and design and ensures service delivery of Enterprise Application Systems. The position is also responsible for various aspects of the Web and may be required to perform Database administration tasks.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides significant input into key aspects of the institutions strategic applications technology plans. Proactively resolves complex technical issues and uses innovative thinking by making recommendations for new approaches to technical work and broader issue resolution.
- Analyzes designs, develops and documents new application systems using process modeling and conceptual data modeling methodologies. Provides work area and business process analysis to determine information requirements, gaps and suggests solutions. Develops systems specifications working with business areas and IT.
- Customizes and implements new 3rd party application systems and web software applications. Performs software testing, including security testing to verify that protection mechanisms built into the system will protect it from improper penetration, and takes action to correct any faults. Sets up and maintains the institution's software application servers. Provides direction and support for less experienced staff.
- Provides system administration support to core systems supporting TRU's operations.
- Develops and delivers training materials, system documentation and technical presentations for the purpose of demonstrating systems and training. Produces programming and systems documentation for existing systems and new implementations.
- Provides consultation, advice and assistance to users of the institution's critical ERP systems and other software applications.
- Provides consultation, advice and assistance for implementing business intelligence reporting solutions for data analysis. Supports standard reporting tools and creates various reports to meet end-user requirements.
- Ensures the technical integrity, security of mission-critical and confidential data according to the FOIPPA and other legislation, consistency and reliability of the Internet and Intranet websites and web applications by establishing performance measurements and goals, monitoring system performance and usage and taking corrective actions.
- Provides project coordination on software systems implementations by defining and sequencing activities; communicating expectations; liaison between manager, end-users, and other developers; assigning resources to activities; monitoring outcomes and handling arising difficulties.
- Provides Internet and Intranet website and web application administration and support. Provides consultation, advice and assistance on web page development, design and programming to other institutional web-authors.
- Creates stored procedures, packages, triggers and other database code. May assist DBA in performing database administration tasks including monitoring, maintaining and supporting application database systems.
- Maintains currency of technical knowledge by reading, self-training and researching on the Internet.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- A Bachelor's degree in an Information Technology related area or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- Five years required experience with Information Technology including at least:
- Four years recent and related experience, working within an IT department, including web development and other application development tools, enterprise RDBMS, and Business Intelligence tools. Recent experience developing and successfully implementing complex application solutions using skills, knowledge and abilities specified below

- Demonstrated ability to administer complex information systems
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of RDBMS such as Oracle and Microsoft database solutions
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Internet technology, n-tier, client-server and web development
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of standard reporting tools and business intelligence tools
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of development languages such as Java, PL/SQL, PHP, HTML and JavaScript
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex application systems

The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
Pay Band
CUPE Grade 11 $39.68
Salary rate
This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
