TalentCompass is hiring a Sr. Application Developer for a client in Edmonton on 3-year term, with a possibility for an extension for another 12 months.
Our client seeks an experienced Application Developer for continued improvement, development, and support of the Workforce Reporting Platform (WRP). The WRP is a modern business intelligence solution focused on human capital data. The technology used includes the full Microsoft BI stack, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and custom developed components.
The WRP back-end includes a data warehouse for archiving, rule-based data cleansing, and data transforms and in-memory semantic layer for aggregate and analytic calculations, security, and fast performance. Data consistency and common security is ensured as the variety of front-end technologies access the semantic layer only.
The WRP will work in tandem with the Enterprise Reporting Platform (ERP). The Application Developer will work alongside our Data Architect to ensure data from this new AESG system continues to be received by the WRP appropriately and translates the existing 20 years of historical data in the warehouse into a format that enables cohesive reporting and analytics between the two data sets.
Responsibilities:
- Working with the WPR Data Architect, Workforce Reporting and Analytics staff and other Information Technology professionals, duties will include:
- Enhancing the Data Warehouse and BI product architecture, design, construction, testing and management.
- Supporting the Data Architect to design, construct, test and implement the available data within the AESG solution including data mapping and modelling to enable cohesive trending and analysis.
- Supporting the development of maintenance and ETL procedures to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the WRP.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders such as the Government Services IT Sector, Enterprise Data and Analytics and the ERP team.
- Developing robust technical and business documentation as changes/enhancements are made that support the overall maintenance and vitality of the application.
- Initiating and participating in meetings with various stakeholders such as for design and architecture review.
- Introducing best practices and process improvements.
- Transitioning application maintenance services (release management, database management and operation sustainment).
- Interpreting business requirements, gather business use cases and prioritize by potential business impact.
- Implementing software lifecycle best-practices and standards to build, test, and release enhancements.
- Defining and performing quality assurance on BI deliverables in collaboration with a third-party application maintenance services support vendor.
- Initiating and supporting knowledge transfer to internal staff and support contractors so the solution and design can be maintained after the assignment is completed.
- Developing user-acceptance test cases as well as monitoring and ensuring quality-control of said testing.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of related experience
- 7 years of experience in software development methodologies (i.e. agile, waterfall, scrum, Kanban, etc.)
- 7 years of experience in developing data warehouse solutions using an on-premises Microsoft BI Stack
- 3 years of experience with projects spanning multiple technical environments within an ERP environment.
- 3 years of experience working in specific streams – HCM, Finance, and Payroll
Remote work environment but must be living in AB for on-site meetings and workshops.
