Staff Accountant Job at Bellstar Hotels & Resorts
Bellstar Hotels & Resorts Corporate Office is now hiring a Staff Accountant. This is a hybrid position that will allow you to work from home as well as in the office, located in downtown Calgary.
With your “think like a guest, act like an owner mentality”, you have a passion for preparing monthly reporting of our managed properties in the hospitality industry. Reporting to the Corporate Controller this position plays a vital role in the accounting functions such as accounts receivable, cash management and financial statement reporting by using a collaborative and supportive approach.
Responsibilities for this role include:
- Coordinating closely with property leaders to ensure revenues and expenses are recorded and allocated accurately
- Calculating and posting monthly, quarterly and annual accruals
- Performing monthly closing duties
- Reviewing hotel general ledger accounts and reconciling on a monthly basis
- Performing monthly cash, credit card and inter-company account reconciliations
- Completing monthly bank reconciliations by the assigned due date
- Resolving discrepancies through research and initiate adjustments as needed through payroll, A/P, or GL
- Preparing financial statements, reviewing them with General Managers; correcting or explaining discrepancies when needed and then presenting to the Assistant Corporate Controller
- Verifying the accuracy of the period-end data; working with General Managers to provide explanation for variances to budget/forecast and prior year
- Maintaining and enhancing operational trend analysis & KPI metrics
- Work with General Managers and Property Leadership in the development of ad-hoc financial modeling, budgets, and forecasting
- Perform special projects or other tasks as assigned; duties may vary based on signed management agreements and/or owner requirements and/or separate Monthly Responsibilities/Month End Responsibilities
The “must haves”:
- 3+ years of mid-level Accounting experience in the hospitality industry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint
- Excellent organizational, time management, and detail orientated skills
- Ability to create, grow, and maintain relationships with internal departments and operational leaders
- Proficient English verbal and written communication skills
- Physical ability to occasionally lift to 20 lbs
- Ability to travel to property sites and/or the USA when required
The “nice to haves”
- Current, or working towards, Chartered Professional Accountant designation
- Exposure to US GAAP or IFRS
