Reporting to the Manager, Student Success, the Student Success Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, development, and implementation of assessment, evaluation, recording, and reporting policies, procedures, and standards in an inclusive education system. Additionally, the Student Success Coordinator is responsible for the design, development, implementation, application, and evaluation of assessment tools for all K-12 schools in Nunavut.
This position is within the Student Achievement division, reporting to the Student Success Manager, and will collaborate with schools, Regional School Operations as well as other divisions within the Department of Education to identify the student assessment, evaluation, recording, and reporting needs of the territory. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring that instruction and assessment offered in schools meet the curriculum standards established by the Minister of Education. It is through this position that the department demonstrates accountability to the Public for the quality of education programming offered to students in Nunavut Schools.
An in-depth knowledge of departmental vision, goals, philosophy, educational principles, beliefs, and pedagogy is required to be successful in this position. The incumbent must also have knowledge of bilingual/bicultural education, models of instruction and assessment, inclusive education, and current culturally appropriate educational practices. Excellent English communication skills and demonstrated skill working with classroom teachers to improve instruction is also required.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are obtained through a recognized Bachelor of Education degree, along with three years of experience teaching in a K-12 education system with experience in student assessment design or delivery. Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
