How will you contribute?

The incumbent will work collaboratively as an integral member of a small office team in Ottawa in support of Senator Boyer’s work, which includes issues affecting Metis, Inuit, and First Nations in Canadian law and policy. Among other topics we are currently working on a robust approach to a rights-based approach in reproductive justice.

We are looking for someone with passion, who has a diverse lived experience and a commitment to advancing the inherent rights of Metis, Inuit, and First Nations in Canada, and around the globe. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment where every day is different and brings on new challenges.

Open to

The general public to staff one (1) determinate (part-time) position. Working hours can be adjusted to fit the incumbent's course schedule on an ongoing basis.

Candidates of Indigenous ancestry will be given preference in accordance with s. 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act. Indigenous applicants are asked to self-identify their home community in their cover letter.

Prerequisites

  • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited institution (political science, law, business or any other field related to the duties of the position) or returning to their next academic term; or must be currently recognized as having student status by the academic institution in which they are presently enrolled;
  • Experience working/living with Metis, Inuit, and First Nations people and in communities;
  • Experience in planning and performing administrative services to support the daily operations of an executive office;
  • Experience using the MS-Office suite;
  • Experience in liaising with senior executives’ offices;
  • Ability to research, analyze, summarize complex information into clear and concise briefs;
  • English is essential, knowledge of/proficiency in an Indigenous language is valued.
