Supervisor Job at Two Trees Child Care Centre
POSITION SUMMARY The supervisor will assume all responsibilities for day to day operations of the child care center. The supervisor will develop, deliver and manage the child care program in order to ensure a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for children. REPORTING STRUCTURE The Supervisor position reports directly to the Executive Director(s) of Two Trees Child Care Centre Inc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an E.C.E program or equivalent at a recognized institution.
Must be registered and in good standing with the College of ECE’s.
Must have minimum 3 years experience working in a daycare or in a montesorri setting
Must have First Aid-CPR certification, valid Criminal Reference Check and an updated medical certificate.
Must have or need to obtain Food Handlers Certificate
Strong working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and Ministry of Education requirements.
Demonstrate fiscal management ability.
Knowledge of municipal funding and application procedures.
Ability to create, maintain and implement policies and procedures within a childcare setting.
Strong English language skills in both oral and written.
Strong interpersonal skills when relating to the children, parents, staff and the public.
Reliable, dependable and trustworthy.
Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
Ability to lead and motivate a group of up to 20 staff.
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
Ability to work under strict deadlines.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPECATIONS
Must participate in workshops, continuing education and other E.C.E/Supervisor resources as part of on going professional development.
Supervisor PROGRAM
Staff a. Develop and implement effective recruitment and hiring procedures.
b. Provide appropriate training, information and orientation to all new and prospective staff.
c. Ensure staff have access to resource information.
d. Ensure money and time are available for staff development and program implementation
e. Conduct regular staff performance reviews
f. Provide opportunities to staff for ongoing professional growth.
g. Develop effective staffing policies and communicate them to staff.
h. Ensure the environment meets staff’s needs.
i. Assist staff to look after their own health needs.
j. Provide a bi-weekly work schedule for staff and ensure that all days off are covered by supply staff.
2) Directors
a. Maintain communication with Directors of Two Trees Child Care Centre Inc.
b. Provide information and advice to the Directors concerning the business and program
c. Work with the Directors and staff to develop and implement the center’s philosophy.
d. Help Director to build and promote the Centre
3) Program
a. Develop and implement center’s policies and procedures
b. Responsible for implementing high quality program (ensure center’s involvement with programs such as “Raising the Bar”)
c. Create a working relationship with members of the community
d. Responsible for completing and submitting all applications for the Ministry of Education and the municipal sector.
e. Ensure that the center is running in accordance to CCEYA, the Ministry of Education, and Municipal standards.
f. Create and maintain daily, weekly and monthly planner to ensure all tasks are complete in a timely manner.
g. Ensure center is running in compliance of Ministry and Municipal standards.
h. Invoice all families for cost of care and provide receipts when necessary. i. Attend all meetings and conferences pertaining to supervisors and the field of ECE as per the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Child and Youth Services, Ministry of Community and Social Services, and the County.
i. Maintain and file all records to their appropriate places, ensure they are all up to date.
j. Report and file all serious occurrences with the Ministry as they happen.
k. Keep up to date on all changes and updates made to the current legislation.
l. Knowledge of CWELCC program
COMMUNICATION 1) With Children
a. Ability to communicate with children at their level so that they can comprehend easily.
b. Using appropriate body language and tone, interact positively with children at their level and maintain eye contact.
c. Utilize positive reinforcement and discipline according to the Centre’s Behaviour Guidance Policy and ensure that situations are handled in a calm and respectful manner. d. Ensure that children of all races, religions and cultures are treated with equality and respect.
2) Staff and Directors
a. Must be able to work within a collaborative team environment by participating in a cooperative and enthusiastic manner.
b. Review staff contracts upon employment with all staff, ensure they understand their position and all that it entails.
c. Hold staff meetings during and after working hours when necessary.
d. Responsible for implementation of quarterly staff meetings.
e. Identifies areas that require assistance and offer resources to aid staff.
f. Share ideas and criticisms with others in a constructive manner.
g. Ability to perform in a team environment, empathize, compromise and be flexible.
h. Discuss issues directly with staff involved when dealing with a problem or concern.
i. Inform the Director of pertinent information regarding staff, children, and any damaged equipment at the Centre.
j. Maintain a positive attitude and strive to create a happy atmosphere for the children, staff and families.
k. Carry out disciplinary actions when necessary by adhering to the steps laid out in the policies and procedures manual.
3) With Parents
a. Develop and maintain a positive rapport with parents and/or guardians.
b. Give all new and prospective clients a thorough tour of the center and it’s program (appointment and walk-ins).
c. Ensure parents understand and correctly fill out all registration information as they enroll their children.
d. Maintain regular communication with parents in order to keep them aware of changes to the policies and procedures.
e. Greet all parents as they are coming in and out of the center.
f. Respond to parent request with flexibility.
g. Respect confidentiality.
h. Provide financial records and billing inquires to families as necessary.
Kitchen
a. Supervise kitchen staff
b. Work with kitchen staff and Director to create menu
c. Help with kitchen duties and cook when staff is on vacation or absent or when Centre number is low
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
