Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:
- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
- consistent use of the most current effective instructional practices to create powerful balanced literacy and numeracy programs
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability using Universal Design for Learning to plan and deliver personalized instruction to meet the individual needs of students
- demonstrated effective ability to utilize a variety of assessment processes that allow students to show what they know (assessment for, as, of learning) and that allow the teacher to plan for/adjust instruction to meet the collective and individual learning needs of students
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability to facilitate “outdoor” learning and environmental opportunities into the curriculum on a daily basis
- knowledge of and experience with integrating local First Peoples Principles of Learning into the classroom
- willingness to co-plan and co-teach to meet the social/emotional and behavioural needs of students
- demonstrated effective ability to utilize proactive classroom management strategies in order to promote a positive and effective learning environment in the classroom and throughout the school; supporting PBS and school wide initiatives and Code of Conduct to promote a positive learning environment
- demonstrated high level of organization skills
- proven commitment to and demonstrated effective ability in working with colleagues in a collaborative fashion to engage in shared planning and shared decision making, and to develop a strong and caring professional learning community in support of the School Growth Plan
- proven effective ability to demonstrate and apply excellent interpersonal skills with students, staff and parents
- demonstrated commitment and involvement in professional development and staff collaboration that supports the enhancement of student learning (curricular and core competencies) as it applies to the primary context
