J.D. Irving, Limited is currently seeking a motivated individual for the role of Operations Manager for Grand Lake Timber Sawmill.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operation of Grand Lake Timber Sawmill site (sawmill, planermill, value added production lines, and logistics)
  • Support the Sawmill Manager in leading a team of sawmill professionals
  • Identify, develop and lead process improvement projects across various areas of the sawmill using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies
  • Data collection and analysis, including analysis of potential and active improvement projects, and measuring savings.
  • Coach supervisor to provide effective training and support to team members
  • Foster a safety culture by maintaining high safety standards, ensuring safety compliance, and assisting in the development of effective safety policies
  • Work collaboratively with other department managers and team leads
  • Ensure customer needs are met or exceeded (quality, on-time delivery, and service)
  • Build and align strategy, policies, and procedures with respect to production and yield
  • Oversee the production activities of various machine centers and manage schedules to optimize labour and meet customer orders
  • Generate, review, and analyze reporting related to production efficiency, quality, and safety KPIs

Qualifications:

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Years of Experience Required:
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role
  • 5 years in an industrial setting
  • A strong commitment to safety and an understanding of bahaviour-based safety programs
  • Process improvement experience would be considered an asset
  • Expertise in technical aspects of manufacturing, such as, quality control, machine-center performance, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to team building and shared success
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team-based environment with a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Ability to coordinate work with other internal departments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Committed to top performance in a safe work environment
