Our expectations of this role:
Lean 6 sigma certification is a huge value add to have.
You will be accountable for plant operations, warehouse operations, and QA/food safety of manufacturing.
As well, the most important part of the role will be to ensure we maximize the output of this facility with the highest gross margin possible.
IE:
-how we use space for manufacturing, raw materials and finished goods storage. Optimize every inch of efficiency.
That being said, before we grow past $26 million of revenue we must first become a masters of our Operations.
Mid-Day Squares is a truthfully differentiated product that is pushing the advancement of CPG manufacturing.
The expectation of this role is that you are capable of being scrappy regardless of your Director title. Mid-Day Squares has finite resources. It's not yet profitable which means you have to be ready to be a jack of all traits ready to roll up your sleeves.
That being said, scrappy doesn't mean disorganized.
Scrappy means that you get it done with limited resources while still being organized, well thought through on processes and protocols. This avoids chaos and keeps things in controlled chaos.
This role gives you the opportunity to have operational ownership of the most disruptive start-up in the chocolate industry.
You will report directly to the co-CEO and help execute the vision for the company.
You will have full P&L responsibility over the below
P&L Ownership:
COGS =
-Ingredient Material Cost
-Packaging Cost
-Production Labor Hourly Cost
-Warehouse Labor Output
-Warehouse/Manufacturing Rent Expense
-Production Utilities
-Production Supplies
-Production Salaried
-Waste/Disposal
You will be responsible for all annual budgeting when it comes to the above items. As well, you will sign off on the P&L revenue growth plans in regards to our facility and infrastructure capacity.
Capacity Growth you will be expected to Manage:
You will be responsible to lead and assemble/operate a team that can handle:
-$26 million 2023- 2024
-$55 million 2024- 2025
-$110 million 2025- 2026
IE:
What's the growth plan of the warehouse? What's the growth plan of the manufacturing plant? Does our process need to be improved? How are we handling products? Does the space make sense?
The team we believe is needed to report to you:
-Plant supervisor
-Head of QA
-Warehouse team lead
-Technical team ( Mechanical and Electrical engineer)
What does success look like:
-You will be accountable for building the processes to achieve the scaling of our operations for growth.
-Continuous improvement is your goal. Over simplify, action, gain result, rinse, and repeat.
-Have an obsession with process and checklists. We believe these two things basically mean world class which means always being predictable, and followable.
-Implementation of BRCGS, getting certified and holding an AA+ grade which in turn will lead your team to be World Class
-Build out a strong preventive-maintenance plan for the machines and facility.
-Be excellent at being PROACTIVE. IE You anticipate equipment breaks, spare parts being delayed, and facilities having issues and have a predefined game plan to run if these occur.
-You can handle short shelf life and are excellent at maximizing our assets outputs using the smallest footprint possible through lean and just-in-time strategies.
-You deeply enjoy being around the shop floor.
-Leadership: You can motivate your team and give them the tools and guidance they need to succeed at their jobs.
-You drive your whole team through a process checklist to ensure the data flowing into our MRP is true. What’s happening in real-time should be happening live in the MRP. Finance and supply chain should believe the data output by your team like we believe in oxygen for life.
-You can't help but improve the process to decrease the cost of Direct COGS.
-You optimize our space use/needs to execute our growth with extreme efficiency.
- You creatively lead your team to decrease waste.
A preview into why our thought process is different than conventional food manufacturing:
Mid-Day Squares is a truthfully differentiated product that is pushing the advancement of CPG manufacturing by putting product presentation and ingredient integrity first.
This is different from most manufacturing norms we come across.
The typical CPG manufacturing solution is to look for the easiest way to solve a problem.
Example:
It would be easy to solve some of our manufacturing issues if we could use palm kernel oils but we've taken a stance against certain ingredients for our customer base.
So although the palm kernel would solve some of our complexity it is the wrong logic to approach problem solving for Mid-Day Squares.
Our framework revolves around how to create the best product for our customer and brand first and then we figure out how to make it a manufacturing reality second.

What can we manufacture easily and then go out and convince our customers to buy?
We are open to all sorts of ideas as long as they are thought through via the objective of Mid-Day Squares.
For instance, we currently make our own chocolate and know it would be easier to buy chocolate already made from suppliers.
This is a thought that can be explored as long as we explore it through the lens of “what needs to be true for us to use other people's chocolate”.
