The Warehouse Summer Student is responsible for accurately and quickly servicing a very demanding client base while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards in the industry. The individual must be capable of lifting 5 to 50+ pounds repeatedly and be prepared to meet any challenge. Must have a positive attitude and work well with others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Accurately hand select and set up orders to ship – Usually same day by utilizing a cart
• Walking through the warehouse to other aisles to pick orders using a RF Scanner
• Process picked orders to prepare each box for shipment to client
• Transfer hand picked order to the dock area for it to be shipped out
• Work proficiently against Productivity and Quality targets
• Maintain a strict housekeeping standard
• Report safety and security issues to your direct supervisor
• Other duties as assigned
• Ad-hoc functions such as occasional administrative assistance in the office;
• Communicate stock errors and discrepancies clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Currently enrolled in post secondary.
• Minimum 1-year experience working as a warehouse order picker, general laborer or in a distribution environment
• Proven ability supporting/working with RF equipment and remote printers
• Accurate and detail oriented
• Skilled in managing competing priorities and problem solving under minimal supervision
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Asset to have certifications for specific machinery (Example: Order Picker, Raymond Reach, Counterbalance)

COMPLEXITY & JUDGEMENT:

Regularly encounter differing problems with customers, transportation, location employees, sales and/or receiving, as well as a busy, high-stress workload. Requires judgment to analyze and identify alternative courses of action. Communication abilities must be at a high level.

INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS:

• Daily communications with management team, shippers and warehouse employees, to insure proper workflow and to provide support for load set-up and picking requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbent spends almost 95% of their time in our Warehouse environment requiring varying degrees of considerable physical labor as an Warehouse Picker. Lifting, pulling and pushing varied amount of products weighing between 5-50+ lbs. About 5% of their time may include ad-hoc functions such as: cycle counts, office assistance etc. Personal safety is affected by dust and traffic caused by other forklift operators. Preference will be given to those who possess a high level of self-awareness, and responsible work attitude.

12 hour continental shifts

• Must have the ability to work overtime
• Must be willing to work flex hours in the summer if needed
