Waterfront Instructor / Lifeguard

The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Center is seeking an individual that holds both their National Lifeguard Service (NLS) and their Lifesaving Society “Swim-for-Life” swim instructor certification to become part of their aquatic facility team. This position would be part of a team that will provide aquatic programing at a satellite location. A successful candidate will be a member of a team that will supervise and ensure the safety of park patrons through prevention and timely response to injuries, incidents, and emergencies, along with teaching scheduled Lifesaving Society Swimming Lessons each day. The successful candidate will strive to deliver the high quality aquatic experience in a fast-paced, growing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lifeguard and assist/lead to run program activities and special events at the lake area.
- Monitor lake for patron safety
- Keep lake area clean and well maintained – regular tidying of beach area
- Maintain and report lifejackets, and all other water equipment by way of regular inspection, proper storage and maintenance, and repair or replacement as necessary
- Follow through on consistent enforcement of appropriate rules and regulations, while fostering congenial staff – patron relationships.
- Maintain sufficient water safety equipment (backboards, buoys, rescue tubes, etc.)
- Regular skills/emergency action inservice training
- Placement and bringing ashore of raft, each day.
Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications: (to be maintained as a condition of employment)
- National Lifeguard Service Award (NLS) – Waterfront Option
- LSS Swim-for-Life Swimming Instructor certification
- Standard First Aid
- CPR – C and/or HCP
- WHMIS
Desirable Qualifications:
- Lifesaving Instructor
Job Hazards
- Hot, sunny conditions, including long periods of outdoor and water exposure
- Regular lifting of heavy objects
- Involvement in potentially dangerous situations when attempting swimmer rescue or other waterfront work
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and as a contributing member of a team
- Demonstrate problem solving and judgement
- Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, start-up environment
- Ability to establish and maintain respectful, cooperative, and professional working relationships with your team and community
- Experience working with various demographics
- Willingness and flexibility to cheerfully perform tasks and duties beyond those typically assigned
- Physical stamina and ability to daily perform duties assigned
- Understanding of and support for Camp policies, mission, and summer program goals
