The Community Mobilizer serves as police ambassadors embedded within the community. The position promotes two-way engagement and planning to support improved police service designs to marginalized and visible minority communities. This position also works with communities at grassroots level to help foster and build trust and relationships and access to services though breaking down barriers and perceptions. Primary duties include:
  • Build on existing partnerships (e.g. agencies, community associations, faith groups).
  • Plan, implement and monitor community engagement sessions on public safety.
  • Public Safety promotion and awareness through training, education and facilitation of workshops and participation in community events.
  • Serve as community liaison with District commanders to determine priorities and scheduling and implementation of activities.
  • Assist in developing appropriate communication tools in conjunction with the Diversity Resource Team, Calgary Police Service (CPS) Advisory Boards/Circle, Anti-Racism Action Committee, District Commanders and Community Resource Officers (CROs).
  • Looks for ways to promote open and honest discussion between police and Community members CPS Advisory Boards/Circle, Anti-Racism Action Committee, District Commanders and Community Resource Officers (CROs).
  • Develop Action Plans and monitor progress toward achieving program goals and milestones.
  • Provide oversight on project activities including work plans, activity schedules and communications and project reports to both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • A completed 2 year diploma in social science or a related field and a minimum of 2 years directly related experience.
  • Lived experience as a member of an underrepresented community is required.
  • Previous experience working with law enforcement or public safety is considered an asset.
  • Success in this position requires strong communication and customer service skills and the ability to build relationships that contribute to teamwork and achieving project goals. Remaining calm in stressful situations while focusing on results and using time and resources effectively.
Working Conditions: Some evening and weekend work hours may be required. Driving to different locations around the City is required.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour (2023 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.


Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
