The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Capital Management and Maintenance is responsible for the strategic management of Good Samaritan’s capital assets and providing direction and leadership to the Regional Maintenance Managers.
Key Accountabilities
- Provides strategic direction to the capital management and facilities maintenance function within Good Samaritan.
- Establishes and maintains a building/facilities standard for Good Samaritan.
- Develops a multi-year capital plan for all Good Samaritan capital assets.
- Creates, implements and oversees an effective and efficient preventative maintenance plan.
- Works with Regional Maintenance Managers to identify capital planning needs and priorities.
- Leads the preparation of the annual capital budget and ensures it is carried out.
- Recommends annual operating budgets for facilities maintenance.
- Provides leadership to the Regional Maintenance Managers with support including regular consultation, technical guidance and problem solving support.
- Provides direction, oversight and assistance in conducting asset assessments including annual building assessments.
- Advises on the appropriate use of capital reserves.
- Analyzes energy consumption at Good Samaritan locations to improve energy savings and to ensure best practices for energy savings are being implemented.
- Oversees the maintenance of the capital planning database and ensures data integrity.
- Oversees the preparation of capital planning reports.
- Manages staff performance including performance reviews, coaching, training and development.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Educational and other qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree plus completion of project management training and/or other related education focusing on construction/facility planning, preventative maintenance programming, business management and leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of facilities and relevant safety, hazard legislation and building code requirements.
- Good understanding of the principles of building assessments including building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems and site components.
- Knowledge of building lifecycles.
- Awareness of licensing requirements, accommodation and continuing care health standards for both BC and AB.
Work Experience includes:
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years related experience in construction and project management.
- Experience in management/leadership of complex projects.
- Related experience with trades, building codes, design guidelines and drawings management.

Criminal Records Check:
A current and clear Criminal Records Check and where applicable, a current and clear Vulnerable Sector Check, with such check(s) obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the candidate’s hire date.

GSS/GSC is will be piloting a hybrid work arrangement which, if adopted, could see this position working from home and from office on a scheduled basis.
