Our team works in a new engineering facility in Ville Saint-Laurent and has a very collaborative and cohesive work environment. The reason for this opening is that Actalent is investing in making several long-term hires to build a critical mass on its team. We are seeking an FPGA Design Engineer to join our team in Montreal. The first project this person will support involves a state-of-the-art product related to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). The project will produce the new generation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers for avionic application. The new receiver will track signals from different constellations, such as GPS, Galileo and Beidou. The new platform will include different components of FPGA, ASIC, software and hardware, including 3rd party IP. The receiver will be developed per avionic standard DO-254 to achieve the highest avionic Design Assurance Level, DAL A. This engineer will report to a Practices manager specialized in FPGA and will have the opportunity to experience a variety of complex and challenging projects throughout their career with Actalent.

This position is remote, with occasional visits to client site encouraged but not mandatory.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Design and Develop FPGA based high-speed and low power digital circuits & I/O interfaces using VHDL on the Xilinx Series 7 and UltraScale+ MPSoC FPGAs

2. Modifying existing I/O IP to new/modified set of requirements, Xilinx FPGA load generation, supporting ASIC integration of I/O IP

3. Design and Develop MPU to FPGA/ASIC general purpose memory interface and/or possible DMA module

4. Support verification effort and occasionally writing tests cases & procedures after design phase

5. Generate new, or update existing, design documentation in English

6. Follow Quality Management System processes

7. Participate in peer reviews of own work as author and that of others as reviewer

8. Work both independently and as part of a team

9. Other duties as assigned by management

Experience:

Required:

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or equivalent

2. Minimum of 5 years of in designing complex FPGA based digital systems that incorporate targeted I/O

3. Experience in developing in VHDL for high-speed and low power digital circuits & I/O interfaces

4. Experience using, and strong familiarity with, Xilinx Vivado (targeting 2021.1 or newer) hardware design tool for ASIC prototyping

5. Experience with the design and development of HDL with Xilinx Series 7 and UltraScale+ MPSoC FPGAs with understanding of trade-offs for development targeting an ASIC

6. Experience designing ARINC-429, UARTS, SPI interfaces as well as general synchronous and asynchronous interfaces.

7. Experience working in a requirement driven development process
