YOUR ROLE
Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for Occupational Health, Safety and Loss Prevention (Fire Prevention and Security) programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements as they relate to Occupational Health, Safety and Loss Prevention
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, implement and maintain health and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and eliminate/mitigate the potential for loss;
- Keep the site current with latest ideology/technology with respect to the health/safety/loss prevention;
- Measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of health, safety and loss prevention programs
- Lead mill safety committees including Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee;
- Establishing reliable methods for improving safety performance and nourish a safety focused culture in which all employees are accountable for safety;
- Recognizes opportunities for safety improvement, develops action plans, and leads a team in implementation;
- Manages day to day operations of the safety department (staff, budget, etc.);
- Ensures compliance with Corporate and Mill safety and health guidelines;
- Stays abreast of changing corporate and regulatory changes;
- Manages and oversees workers compensation, accident investigation, contractor safety orientation, employee safety training, and process improvement initiatives;
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders;
- Develops and updates mill-wide safety KPI’s and communicates status routinely;
- Lead incident investigations and preform root cause analysis.
YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of occupational health and safety, workers compensation, regulatory requirements and loss prevention;
- Must have demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, be a self-starter with a strong orientation for continuous improvement;
- Ability to manage time and multi-task to accomplish a variety of assignments with conflicting priorities and deadlines;
- Must be customer service oriented and a confident communicator at all levels of organization including listening, writing and presenting;
- Change agent with the ability to collaborate well with others;
- Strong problem solving & analytical skills, excellent judgment and confidentiality;
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple tasks in an environment with competing demands;
- Detail oriented;
- Exceptional coaching skills with proven ability to coach varying levels of the operation;
- Work well in team and possess a friendly and positive demeanor and professional image.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-Secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Loss Prevention
- Minimum of 10 years of related health and safety experience in an industrial work environment
- Previous experience supervising a team
- Strong computer system aptitude and experience working with various types of software including Microsoft Office Suite;
- Previous experience working in manufacturing would be an asset
