POSITION SUMMARY

  • Maintains the highest housekeeping standards throughout the facility by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in suites, and assigned work areas by following established policies and procedures. Performs housekeeping and cleaning services within the building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows cleaning schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) as outlined.
  • Cleans assigned areas, furnishings, fixtures according to established housekeeping procedures.
  • Cleans floors, dry mops, wet mops, sweeps, disinfects where and when necessary.
  • Performs emergency housekeeping as required.
  • Cleans movable and stationary furnishings and fixtures, dusts, spot cleans or washes, disinfects, when necessary, polishes where required, cleans ledges, shelves, vents, etc.
  • Empties, cleans and relines waste baskets. Disposes of trash.
  • Straightens or rearranges furniture as needed. Inspects furnishings for wear and defects and reports to supervisor.
  • Cleans bathrooms (resident, private, public and staff). Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors and walls as directed. Washes interior windows and mirrors. Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Cleans all horizontal surfaces daily or as required, removing dust, dirt or greasy film using disinfectants where necessary.
  • Cleans and prepares newly-vacant rooms for new occupants.
  • Performs cleaning duties in isolation units according to established procedures.
  • Washes and dries laundry in residential machines.
  • Folds laundry as necessary.
  • Reports observations to supervisor concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctions.
  • Reports supply and equipment needs to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Prolonged standing and walking;
  • Lifting and moving of equipment and supplies;
  • Exposure to resident elements through regular Resident contact;
  • Some stress resulting from dealing with Resident needs and time pressures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifting alone, maximum 50 lbs. (5-25 lbs. Usual);
  • Lifting with assistance, maximum 100 lbs. as a minor job function;
  • Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys with contents that weigh a maximum of 200 lbs. (20-50 lbs. Usual);
  • Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift as an essential job function.
  • Walking, with possibility of some upstairs walking, as a major job function;
  • Standing, for lengths of time, up to four hours maximum. (1-3 hours usual) as a major job function;
  • Bending/stooping on a regular frequency as a major job function;
  • Carries and transports objects of various sizes, to a maximum of 50 lbs. (10-20 lbs usual) as a minor job function;
  • Must be able to move and lift equipment and supplies of various sizes and weights;
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity to recognize the need of assistance required by residents.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Is aware of employee's responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in the employee safety program handbook and departmental manuals;
  • Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and Residents;
  • Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to immediate supervisor.
  • Does not operate or use faulty equipment;
  • Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing)PPE as required by task , M.S.D.S. or residence policy;
  • Promptly reports personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed;
  • Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and is familiar with the residence fire and emergency plans;

KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND EXPERIENCE
Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform general light duty work; ability to get along and communicate with residents and staff.
