JOB SUMMARY

The Geospatial Analytics, Technology and Solutions unit is responsible for Geographic Information System (GIS) & Data Management programs and services, including Geographic Information System (GIS), Zoning Information System (ZIS) activities, Water and Wastewater Distribution Network, Engineering Information Centre, Central Registry (Composite Utilities) and Data Management, Cartography, Web GIS, Visualization and Analytics services.

You are responsible for compiling, maintaining and updating digital water, wastewater, utility, road and sidewalks maps and databases, and producing geographically referenced maps and analytical reports using departmental GIS and CAD systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 2 year community college diploma in Engineering or GIS

Minimum of 3 years of experience in water and wastewater systems and GIS

KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GIS methods and operations, Microstation, AutoCAD, ArcView 8x, SHL Vision* GIS software, FME, ORACLE RDBMS, ITX and SQL PLUS
  • Knowledge of water distribution, wastewater collection systems, roads and sidewalks systems layout and construction techniques
  • Engineering surveying techniques used in the preparation of drawings and development of base plans
  • Working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation
  • General knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to produce, maintain and administer water distribution, wastewater collection, utility, road and sidewalk plans and databases within the departmental GIS system
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to prepare custom plans, maps and analytical reports using GIS system
  • Demonstrated ability to translate digital infrastructure information using FME, SIF, DXF and GINA exchange standards
  • Carry out liaison with departmental staff and other agencies
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills/abilities required to deal effectively, efficiently and positively with all external and internal work related contacts such as information requests from the public, external agencies, utilities and/or other departments related to infrastructure locations and related attribute information
  • Excellent organizational skills including ability to maintain and update computerized database and index system
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision

  • You wil initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
