BWP Consulting Inc is looking for out-going, athletic, team-oriented individuals willing to work in the 2023 Mosquito Control Program. We are looking for four full time employees. The employees can live in either Sicamous, Salmon Arm or Revelstoke and will travel between these communities conducting mosquito control programs. Start in late April or early May, 2023 and complete in August.

The technicians will be primarily responsible for controlling mosquitoes in their larval stages. Larval mosquito control will be conducted by spreading a biological larvicide (Vectobac 200G or Aquabac 200G) with the active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis . Technicians will be given training and then will be responsible for coordinating the treatment of all infested standing water in their area. During peak floods, technician may be expected to work long days during peak flood times with time off at the end of the season in lieu of overtime pay.

Employees will be required to carry a 15 kg backpack larviciding applicator through thick brush and deep water (waist deep). They will also be required to provide helicopter support which entails lifting multiple 18 kg bags of larvicide over their heads to fill a helicopter “seeder”. Staff may also be required to spend time in a helicopter directing the pilot to infested larval development habitats, and therefore a good sense of direction is essential.

Occasionally, staff may be asked to tend a mosquito control information booth at local events (COVID may cause event cancellations this season). This requires great interpersonal skills and experience working with the public is an asset.

Skills (required and/or preferred): Excellent communication skills as will be dealing with public almost daily. Quick to learn about the mechanisms of action of the biological larvicides and their impact on the environment. Strong computer skills are required, as will be expected to enter data into a database on a daily basis. The candidate must own a computer and a cell phone, and have access to email and the internet. The individual selected for this position may occasionally be required to work alone and therefore must be self-motivated and enjoy independence.

Special requirements :Preference given to candidates familiar with the control area

Candidates must possess a minimum of a Class 7N drivers License and should be prepared to bring a driving record to interview (can be obtained for free by calling ICBC- they will email you the report)

Must obtain a valid Mosquito Control Pesticide Applicators Certificate before starting work (employer will pay for study manual and test).
