REPORTS TO: SUMAS FIRST NATION CHIEF AND COUNCIL

PURPOSE & SUMMARY

Semá:th Xo:tsa Developments Ltd. (SXDL), the development arm of Sumas First Nation (SFN) is seeking experienced and qualified members for its Board of Directors. SXDL is responsible for managing and developing economic projects and generating revenue streams to foster the economic and social betterment of SFN. The Board of Directors will work with the SXDL Executive Director to build a strong economic foundation by providing strong, effective management of SFN assets and services through strategic planning, strong leadership and strategic partnerships. Successful candidates will possess a broad range of experience in business development, high level strategic planning, legal matters, real estate, and lands management.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with the other members of the SXDL Board of Directors and SFN Council to:

  • Develop and approve the SXDL strategic vision.
  • Prepare a multi-year business development plan.
  • Approve and monitor SXDL financial and operational plans.
  • Set and maintain organization and operational performance goals for SXDL.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation for project objective progress.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SXDL’s operational practices.
  • Provide evaluation of the SXDL Executive Director.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or designation with extensive experience in any of the following areas: Business development, Strategic planning, Finance, Human resources, Capital planning, Legal matters, Real estate, Lands management and land development
  • Extensive experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
  • Extensive management and employee development experience.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, community members, contractors, field staff and suppliers.
  • Effective verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • First Nations heritage is considered an asset.
  • Appreciation of First Nations culture, traditions, procedures, and protocols.

Job Type: Casual

Salary: $100.00-$350.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • On call

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Abbotsford, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
