Position Summary

In accordance with Northern Health’s vision of an idealized system of services where people and their families receive primary care services in Primary Care Homes supported by interprofessional teams, the Primary Care Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Clinician functions as a member of the interprofessional team and applies best practices to provide competent, safe and ethical care for people and their families in settings such as physician practices, homes, schools and communities. Through assessment and involvement of each person and their family, the Primary Care MHA Clinician develops and implements a plan of care and intervention to assist the person in managing their mental health or addiction challenges. The Primary Care MHA Clinician will provide care according to the person’s care plan and the person’s personal goals.

Haida Gwaii Hospital is a eight acute bed facility and eight long-term care beds that serves the local population and residents of surrounding villages. Daajing Giid is also home to the Haida Gwaii Cancer Care Clinic. Services include general practice and basic emergency, minor surgery, stabilization of trauma and critically ill patients, midwifery, alcohol and drug counselling, public health and social work services.

Daajing Giids is located on the shores of the Skidegate Inlet on the southern end of Haida Gwaii with a population of 943 local residents. Daajing Giids is a community full of art and culture. Gift shops and coffee shops scattered throughout the town display the works of various artists ranging from paintings, woodcarving, pottery, Haida carving, glass work and handmade clothing.   • Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree (from an accredited educational institution) in an Allied Health, Behavioral or Social Science field relevant to the position plus two (2) years recent, experience in a health setting working with complex care clients with a combination of mental health and/or addiction issues. Or equivalent related knowledge, skills and experience.

  • Current valid BC driver’s license.

    Leadership: promotes cooperation among the interprofessional team and collaborates across disciplines. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovation, and participates in professional development of self and others.
    Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of person centered care.
    Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Windows based programs. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
    Ability: Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
