JOB SUMMARY

This position is located at Baymag Mine Site, day shift only, summer runs 4 10-hour shifts, winter is 5 8's. Supervise the overall day-to-day performance, coordination, and management, which may require additional hours. The maintenance of the specified mining shift to assist in obtaining maximum safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service and profitability for the organisation while upholding all aspects of compliance and standards is of utmost importance.

GENERAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Supervise to ensure that the shift team is focused and delivers key priorities to include, but not limited to, high standards of health and safety and good communication
  • Maintain excellent operations and standards
  • Supervise the storage, maintenance and use of plant and equipment by the shift
  • To assist in adhering to budget constraints and targets
  • Responsibility for assisting your Project Manager
  • Assist in developing plans for progress and growth
  • Meet your targets and those of the team as a whole
  • Contribute to the overall development and maintenance of all projects
  • The efficient running of the team
  • Contribute to training and development of the team
  • Perform and supervise all duties in compliance with health and safety and all related legal/statutory regulations, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations

DAY TO DAY

  • Responsibility for day-to-day shift planning and co-ordination of production levels, workers, equipment levels and supplies
  • Responsibility for the daily schedule of work/shifts
  • Oversee shift process and provide the appropriate instruction to the designated team
  • Monitor to ensure smooth shift operations of Drilling, Blasting, Loading, Hauling, Crushing, Reloading onto highway trucks and Road Maintenance of the 38km gravel road to the highway
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of safety issues, particularly regarding mining equipment, and raise any concerns with your Project Manager.
  • Tracking the production rate of the mine. The initial target KPI is 1300mt of ore per day averaged throughout the year, expected to ramp up as we progress.
  • Within specified criteria and adhering to applicable plans (such as emergency planning) deal with issues/problems as they arise to minimize the impact on production, or immediately refer to the Project Manager.
  • Liaise with the owner (Baymag)/team/contractors/suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Subject to specified criteria, recruitment, training (including on the use of equipment), set action and targets, appraise and manage performance, development, coaching and general support of all team members to ensure targets are met
  • Maintain accurate data/records/documentation
  • Carry out prescribed tasks/projects in accordance with contract requirements
  • Carry out allocated shift tasks/projects within set time limits
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, policies and procedures, codes of practice and legislation, including health and safety & HSRC
  • Immediately report problems/failures that may impact the organization and/or its clients/customers to your Project Manager
  • Responsibly use resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Set an example for team members of commitment, discipline, work ethics and habits and personal character

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated ability to lead operational activities in an open-pit mining environment
  • Knowledge of HSRC & other applicable codes, standards, and regulations for this role– experience in this type of job role
  • Basic skills in computers, MS word & Excel
  • Leadership with the ability to supervise and motivate a team– demonstrable deadline/time management and task management skills
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • High degree of integrity and honesty in all dealings
  • Proven ability to develop others
  • An aptitude for mining supervision and associated relationship management
  • Requisite knowledge of the machinery, tools, equipment, and materials common to the role
  • Proven ability in storage, maintenance and use of plant and equipment on a loss-preventative basis
  • Must have a valid BC Shift Boss Certificate w/ Blasting endorsement

From time to time, you may be expected to be part of special projects as are reasonably required of your job role. You are responsible for your allocated workload and must meet all targets as agreed with your Project Manage
