Position Description

Under the direction of the Bareroot Section Grower, is involved with or responsible for several

nursery operational programs on a full-time seasonal basis.

This position will primarily work in the bareroot nursery operations but will also support the

greenhouse operations when needed and as time allows.

Duties:

• Seeding of all bareroot products

• Transplanting of bareroot seedlings, greenhouses seedlings and cuttings

• Irrigation of all crops

• Oversize crop management

• Cutting production including pruning, harvesting and packaging

• Field cleanup

• Mechanical weed control

• Operates tractors, with 3 point hitch implements and other assorted nursery equipment

• Assists with maintenance on equipment and facilities

• Assists on inventory of all field crops

• Manages storage buildings for proper use and cleanliness

• Supports the cultural technician in field management and spraying

• Collects seed and helps with processing and storage

• Operates vehicles and UTV’s

• Assists with stock deliveries

• Other duties as assigned
  

Qualifications

• Physically capable of doing the duties identified

• Ability to work alone or in a team environment

• Ability to work full time hours with some variations to schedule due to weather and work

• Ability to work weekends during spring harvest as well as a flexible work schedule as a

• Ability to work in various climatic conditions including rain, heat and cold

• Willing to follow all appropriate laws and nursery policies

• G class license with clean driving record

• Ability to operate equipment and vehicles identified in above duties

• Pesticide license would be an asset or willingness to obtain

• Capable of taking work direction and following through to task completion

• Self-motivating

• Capable of providing direction and keeping to time schedules for both themselves and

• Health and Safety for Employees as required by the Ontario Ministry of Labour or

• WHMIS training

• Capable of repeated lifting of products weighing up to 25kg.

• Green patch safety boots

Wage

• $19.00-$22.00 per hour
  

These positions generally work from can run from early April till late November. Normal work

hours are 8am till 4:30pm, summer hours are 7am till 3:30pm. Alternative work schedules may

be followed depending on production needs, climate or staffing needs.
