Operator Job at Ontario Heritage Trust
The Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre is looking for a full time Building Operator. The position is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the historic double decker theatre building located in downtown Toronto. The Elgin and Winter Garden is owned and operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust and Agency of the Government of Ontario.
The successful candidate must be able to work a rotating shift that includes days, evenings and weekends. Overtime is occasionally available to support theatre bookings. The operations department consists of 3 building operators and reports to the manager of operations.

What can I expect to do in this role?
- perform general maintenance and upkeep for all environmental, mechanical and electrical operational systems.
- conduct daily inspections of base building systems and controls.
- ensure effective operations of systems and arrange for service if required.
- conduct monthly fire systems checks.
- provide support to contractors and other building departments.
- maintain daily logs.
- respond to system malfunctions.
- perform daily security checks.
- perform basic repairs and routine inspections of equipment and systems to ensure systems are operating efficiently and in accordance with established guidelines.

How do I qualify?
Mandatory
- Ability to complete fall arrest training
- Ability to complete first-aid training
- Ability to complete working at heights training
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- You have working knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of the following systems: electrical systems, plumbing systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
- You have working knowledge of building, maintenance, fire and safety codes including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS).
- You can operate and train staff on the use of hand tools and equipment for repairs.

- You have organizational skills to plan and coordinate activities and ensure timelines are met.
- You have oral communication skills to respond to requests and issues.
- You have written communication skills to prepare log reports.
- You have interpersonal skills to communicate with staff, clients, and visitors.
- You have judgement skills to make decisions in emergency situations.
- You are able to work independently with limited supervision.
- You have computer skills to operate automated systems and equipment.
