Under the general direction of the Support Systems Engineer, the Project Coordinator carries out project management and administration for projects in the Water Services Division. The Project Coordinator is responsible for initiation, execution, completion, and implementation of projects related to contingency planning, strategic planning, developing safe work procedure, developing Water By-law, and providing technical support for the Water Services Division.

As the Project Coordinator you will:

  • Initiate and maintain control of the project in conformance with aims, goals, policies, and objectives of the Water Services’ operation.
  • Make effective use of people and resources required for and involved in the project.
  • Ensure that the project will satisfy the technical, financial and organizational needs for which it was undertaken.
  • Administer all aspects of the budget for a project and ensure that the project is completed within the approved budget.
  • Administer project schedules.
  • Identify, analyze and respond to project risks.
  • Acquire goods and services from outside organizations as necessary to complete the project.
  • Obtain required approvals/permits/licenses from other City and Provincial Departments, as required.
  • Ensure proper collection and dissemination of project information.
  • Ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Provide technical support services for maintaining and improving Water Services operation.
  • Provide project management services for Water Services operation.
  • Represent the Water Services Division in departmental projects.
  • Participate in drafting, reviewing and updating Water By-law.
  • Coordinate with other parts of the City’s organization for Water Services related projects.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as required.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil, Biosystems, or Mechanical Engineering would be preferred.
  • Significant number of years’ experience in a field related to the duties of the position.
  • Familiar with all aspects of water supply system operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess computer skills for AutoCAD, GIS, CWMS, and MS Office suite.
  • Must have an understanding of accounting principles and project cost control.
  • Must be able to work effectively with clerical, administrative, technical and managerial staff.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must possess a sound knowledge of the implementation of engineering related skills.
  • Must have a sound knowledge of project management principles.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, and the ability to direct staff and effectively plan and schedule work.
  • Must be familiar with materials and methods as applied to construction of municipal services and structures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that is applicable to the area of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.

Conditions of employment:

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
  • Professional Engineer or Certified Civil Engineering Technologist designation and eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (E.G.M.) and C.T.T.A.M.
