Seeking an RECE with the knowledge of, or willing to learn about nature-based play and is able to support a healthy and safe learning environment for young children. Some responsibilities include:

  • To ensure a program that will promote the physical, social, emotional and intellectual well-being of the children, as well as any other duties that are required and delegated by the Supervisor
  • Participate in outdoor education and complete training as the organization required
  • Setting up outdoor program for toddlers and preschoolers and engage children in an educational outdoor environment
  • Establish and maintain positive relationship with parents
  • Supervise children, placement students and volunteers
  • Applying first aid treatment and notifying the parents of the injury, depending on its severity (injury to the head requires parents to be notified immediately)

Professional Qualifications

  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Able to obtain a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Screening, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate - Level C, and meet health requirements
  • Current Food Handlers certificate is an asset

  • Applicants must be fully vaccinated with both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with the second dose having been received at least 14 days prior to the start date, or have an approved exemption before entering House of Wonder premises for work.

This is a physically demanding position as it requires constant active movement from standing position to squatting or sitting on the floor or child sized chairs, as it is necessary to be at the child’s level and then move to other areas of the classroom as needed. Lifting and moving of furniture is also required to adapt the room set-up throughout the day. Physical strength is also required as there may be children up to 50 pounds who require lifting for diapering or other special needs.

Salary: $21.60-$23.00 per hour
