We are currently seeking a full-time Senior Accountant with 5 years of experience in an architectural, engineering, design, or similar industry. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer. Previous experience with Deltek Vision or similar time and billing ERP software in a project-based environment is preferred. The position is based in our Toronto office.
Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accountant ensures that the accounting department runs effectively and efficiently, contributes to and ensures the completion of a diverse range of accounting duties including project accounting, reporting, department management, general accounting, and general administration.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
General Accounting
- Work with the CFO and other Accounting Staff to balance responsibilities and workflow changes from time to time;
- Assist in preparation of month-end and year-end financial statements;
- Assist in preparing year-end schedules for the preparation of annual financial statements;
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and/or annual HST returns and monthly HSBC and EDC reports in coordination with the CFO;
- Reconcile credit card statements and expense report; resolve credit card issues;
- Prepare the Accounts Payable cash requirements report for weekly cheque run for review by CFO;
- Initiate wire transfer payments;
- Process and post monthly payments such as: rents, tax installments, WSIB, etc.;
- Reconcile and post telecommunication, courier and other company accounts;
- Reconcile employee accounts monthly and pay out of pocket expenses;
- Maintain monthly billing forecast for all Lord entities; i.e. parent as well as subsidiary companies;
- Maintain general ledger for a number of entities i.e. parent as well as subsidiary companies;
- Organize and maintain accounts payable files;
- Other accounting tasks and reports as needed.
Project Accounting
- As a senior member of the Accounting Team, manage all financial aspects of assigned projects including assisting other Accounting Team member(s) in managing their projects i.e. set up, billing, costing and analysis - including:
- Supporting Project Managers in setting up and managing projects in ERP system;
- Completion of all necessary paperwork (i.e. project control sheet, contracts etc.);
- Conducting monthly interviews with Project Mangers to monitor all financial changes to the project, updating reports as necessary;
- Processing expenses (expense reports, Subcontractor invoices);
- Processing Client billings on Project Manager’s instruction;
- Accounts receivable collections;
- Month-end project revenue recognition and costing analysis
- Prepare project analysis and profitability reports for the Management Team;
- Compiling financial analysis reports for Project Mangers, monthly or as needed;
- Completion of final analysis upon completion of project.
Administration
- Act as the go to person for all Accounting related questions and support for the Consulting Team;
- Work with the CFO to streamline processes with a view to improving efficiencies and simplifying department’s working;
- Participate and represent Finance team in team and company meetings;
- Peer coach, train, and coordinate with other Accounting staff in the performance of duties;
- Assist Chief Financial Officer in hiring of new staff;
- Administrative tasks such as responding to information requests, assistance in planning and execution of office events, and completion of timesheets;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a motivated, committed and an adaptable team player. The candidate will have excellent communication skills, take initiative, be detail oriented and quality conscious, and have proven time and project management skills. Other key qualifications include:
- A Diploma, or Bachelor level degree related to Accounting;
- 5-7 years’ relevant experience;
- Experience working with computerized accounting package (Deltek Vision would be an asset);
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping entries;
- Understanding of financial statements and chart of accounts set up;
- Experience with general ledger account reconciliation and analysis;
- Experience working with multiple currencies;
- Proven customer service success;
- Exceptional English verbal and written communication skills (additional languages an asset);
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook), including advanced experience using MS Excel;
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability to create great working relationships with all levels within the company;
- Proven ability to work independently and in a team setting;
- A genuine interest in the culture, museums and the arts.
