Social Support Worker Job at Anglican Diocese of Ottawa
About the SSW Role:
Our valued Social Support Workers (SSW) are the heart of our programs. With eyes and ears on the ground, SSWs are involved in all aspects of daily operations and assist program participants to meet their basic needs and connect with others, breaking social isolation.
The SSW is also involved in monitoring program goals and the impact and outcomes of services on the lives of the participants, as directed by the Program Manager.
Qualifications:
- College or University education in a social services field or equivalent experience and education preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience working with people from marginalized communities and diverse populations
- An optimistic and empathetic attitude as well as a strong sense of compassion for displaced people
- An understanding of harm reduction strategies and resources
- Demonstrated experience with vulnerable individuals
- There may be situations that require moderate to very high physical exertion
- Bilingualism (French and English) would be an advantage
Skills:
- A client centered and non-judgmental approach is essential.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal and skills
- An ability to problem-solve and maintain a professional approach during stressful situations
- Experience planning and supervising recreational activities
- Excellent listening skills
- Proven conflict resolution and crisis intervention abilities
