Do you have a heart of compassion for those with hidden disabilities?

We are looking for an support worker who can follow directions, learn quickly, and problem solve on your feet — to help our family member with a learning disability in the Hythe/Beaverlodge area.


No experience is necessary, on-going training will be provided.

Starting wage is $18/hour, or higher depending on experience. Some shift work and weekend work may be required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing Support
    • In consultation with the family and individual, explore individual interests and abilities
  • Connecting to Community
    • Assist our family member to identify day, evening, and weekend activities in the community, where she can connect with others around a common area of interest: i.e. recreational clubs, volunteer interests, and associations
    • When necessary, be the conduit between the community group and the individual to facilitate the individual’s meaningful participation
    • Provide support to our family member to enable them to attend, participate, and be part of the community group(s)
    • Safety: Be aware of physical, social, and recreational environments, and take action to minimize risks and maximize inclusion
  • Communication
    • Provide an update of the overall well-being of the individual, including a summary of the week and any feedback from appointments
    • Fill provided reporting chart when indicated by behavioural support plan
    • Assist Funds Administrator in completing Critical Incident Reports if necessary
    • Work as a team with other support staff
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Advocate: Assist our family member to advocate for herself, and advocate on her behalf when necessary


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A steadfast belief and commitment to inclusion, the right for all people to belong, participate, and contribute to the community
  • Creative, imaginative, knowledgeable, and self-directed
  • Knowledge of community resources available and ability to support the person’s participation and inclusion within their community
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to provide support in an image-enhancing and age-appropriate manner
  • Coaching and mentorship skills: Lead by example and support our family member to continue learning new skills and develop increasing independence
  • Willingness to be constantly learning to better individual’s life: MHFA, ASSIST, WJS, crises prevention & intervention, etc...
  • Ability to plan and to incorporate long-term goals, support plans, and physician recommendations
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and applicable insurance
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Police check complete with a Vulnerable Sector Check
