AAC Technologist
Assistive Devices Resource Service (ADRS)
Permanent Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)

Position Summary:
ErinoakKids is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a full-time permanent position as an AAC Technologist with the Assistive Devices Resource Service. The AAC Technologist is part of a team that supports the provision of assistive technology for face-to-face communication, access and writing to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with ADRS Clinicians, ErinoakKids seating clinicians, families, technicians and vendors to assist with mounting of computers, devices and peripherals to clients’ mobility aids;
- Design, build and install custom mounting solutions for client equipment as required;
- Understanding of interfacing technology to interface devices with wheelchairs and peripherals (e.g., Blue tooth, Infra Red, Radio Frequency);
- Collaborate with ADRS Clinicians, ErinoakKids seating clinicians & families to support integration of mobility devices with computers and face-to-face communication devices;
- Support ADRS Communication Technology Facilitators (CTFs) with installation, configuration, delivery & set-up of computers, devices and peripherals for ADRS clients;
- Liaise with vendors and help-desk technicians to resolve technical/software issues;
- Perform administrative Assistive Devices Program (ADP) tasks e.g., shipping/receiving of AAC equipment;
- Complete required documentation and tracking related to client equipment (e.g., Meditech & 4D);
- Perform minor repair and maintenance of AAC Clinic and client equipment;
- Support other technology and equipment duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a Community College, majoring in biomedical technology, engineering technology or equivalent knowledge base.
- 2 years related experience in the field of Biomedical Technology preferred.
- AAC experience in rehabilitation is an asset.
- Working knowledge for fabrication of custom molding in wood, plastic or other.
- Strong computer proficiency & knowledge of various operating systems (Windows & Apple/Mac, Android and iOS).
- Experience with installation of computer hardware and software including adaption/modification of communication systems.
- Knowledge of how different devices can interface with each other (including wheelchair control systems).
- Ability to work independently and be an effective and collaborative member of an inter-professional team.
- Previous experience with children/youth with special needs is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational & communication skills (written and verbal).
- Creative problem solver and strong trouble shooting skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Successful completion of the Centralized Equipment Pool’s Foundations in AAC: An Interprofessional Course (within 6 months of employment) is required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required.
- Travel to support all EOK sites, school and home visits is a requirement for this role.
- Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
