ACCOUNTABLE TO: Environmental Program Manager

Brief Overview:

Under the direction of the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan (MN–S) Environmental Program Manager, the Traditional Land Use Research Specialist will provide coordination to various projects within the province of Saskatchewan that require traditional land use research with the Métis people of the province. The Traditional Land Use Research Specialist will work with consultants, proponents, Métis rights-holders, the MN–S Engagement and Events department and others to coordinate the MN–S’s approach to these projects to ensure that Métis voices are recorded in the traditional land use projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate between project consultants, stakeholders, rightsholders and Métis communities.
  • Develop and maintain a workplan for each project.
  • Act as the first point of contact with proponents in person, via email, and over the phone. Respond and direct questions and inquiries appropriately.
  • Prepare and send a variety of correspondence.
  • Manage, distribute, and coordinate all incoming and outgoing mail and courier documents.
  • Carry out manual and electronic filings as well as scanning of documents and reports Manage recordings and intellectual property provided by Métis citizens in accordance with best practices and all relevant regulations and MN–S policies.
  • Supporting mapping work and provide support and direction to technical support staff.
  • Prepare travel arrangements and book meetings as required.
  • Coordinate meetings including room bookings, room preparations, document printing, and catering requirements Create Engagement plans for meetings and engagement sessions.
  • Communicate with MN–S leadership, Regional leadership and citizens on upcoming meetings.
  • Prepare reports and manage financial costs.
  • Liaise with third party vendors.
  • Work in a team atmosphere and part of a larger working group.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate in business or economics, and/or natural resources, sustainable resources, or environmental sciences and/or relevant training.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar role.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).

Well-developed writing, public speaking, and presentation skills.

  • Well-developed coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Métis culture and the structure of the Métis Nation Saskatchewan.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel and training will be required.
  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector.
